In Argyll there are a number of attractions & point for a picturesque walk s through some beautiful landscapes.

Ardkinglas CastleArdkinglas House was built between 1906 – 1908 for Sir Andrew Noble on the site of the Medieval Ardkinglas Castle stronghold of the Campbells of Ardkinglas, destroyed in 1769.The house has been used for many television and film sets including the location for the television series Crow Road and the film My Life So Far. The original castle was built in the form of a quadrangle around an inner courtyard, there were large turrets on three of the corners and to the front a large gate tower with two defensive turrets. It was surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland, a vast estate.

Castle Sween On the east side of Loch Sween, this castle guards the mouth of the Loch, looking past nearby islands and down the Sound of Jura towards Ireland. It is one of the earliest stone castles in western Scotland, having been built towards the end of the 1100s.Castle Sween, now ruinous, was probably built in the mid-12th century, the main structure, a quadrangular enclosing wall is 6 – 7 feet thick. Three main ranges of timber buildings were originally disposed round a small court. The castle is Norman in appearance. The annexe to the W and its round tower – Macmillan’s Tower – were probably added in the early 14th century, while the rectangular keep was probably added to the NE corner in the 16th century. There is also a well, doubtless original, in the NE angle of the courtyard.

The castle was besieged by Robert the Bruce, and was finally destroyed by Sir Alexander Macdonald in 1647.

Mull Of Kintyre Lighthouse The Mull of Kintyre is a beautiful part of Scotland, its the southern most portion of Kintyre stretching southwards below Machrihanish and Campbel town made famous by Sir Paul McCartneys song Mull Of Kintyre that hit the top of the charts in the very early 80s (possibly late 70s).At the south-westerly most portion is the Mull Of Kintyre lighthouse, its now automated by used to be manned just like every other lighthouse. It’s in quite a remote part of the Mull Of Kintyre and you can drive to around 3 kilometres from the actual lighthouse to a small car park. Some of the road to it is through gates which you can open and close but some of the road is a little rough so a rugged car or 4×4 is recommended.

Saint Columbas FootprintsSaint Columba is regarded as the person who brought Christianity to Argyll from Ireland and the footprints are said to mark the location where he first landed and stayed on his journey through Kintyre and Argyll to Iona where he set up a Christian Monestary.Christianity was a major change in the religious and moral culture of Argyll during that time and Saint Columba is well documented in bringing that change and influence to the region that was then Dal Riata (or Dalriada).Once King of Scotland, Robert The Bruce is also thought to have stayed near here during his flee and return to Kintyre after Bannockburn.
