Rozelle House Galleries – Rozelle House was the property of the Royal Burgh of Ayr for many years before changing back into private hands. The first manor house on the site was built in 1769 and showed much of the Classical style of Robert Adam. In the mid 20th Century the property returned to public hands and a variety of museums and exhibitions were established here. Rozelle House is now a major display venue and is home to a first class art gallery.
Crossraguel Abbey – Founded in the 13th Century by the Earl of Carrick this tremendous abbey is one of the most important historical religious buildings in the region. The abbey is in extremely good order, including the monks church, cloisters and even the dovecote. One of the most important architectural features of the abbey is the choir that dates from the 15th Century. The entire site is operated by Historic Scotland.
Dundonald Castle – The castles association with the Stuarts gives Dundonald its special importance. It was built by Robert Stuart in 1371 to mark his succession to the throne of Scotland. The castle has been transformed over the past ten years and more into one of the must visit attractions in Ayrshire. Situated on a hill above the village, the castle affords some of the best views of the county.
Dunaskin Open Air Museum – Dunaskin Open Air Museum tells the story of the Industrial Revolution in the Ayrshire region. There are a series of displays that pertain to the main industries of the region, namely coal mining, iron working and brick making. A series of audio-visual presentations help to offer an understanding into how it would have been to live in those days. There are also historical buildings, reconstructions and a period cottage from 1914 to admire.
Dalgarven Mill Museum – Dalgarven Mill Museum is a country life museum in a 16th Century restored grain mill, which was converted to house an extensive collection of Ayrshire memorabilia and costume. The museum tells the story of a self-sufficient, pre-industrial rural community of Dalgarven.
